Após um longo período de dedicação, o DJ e produtor italiano Fedele nos presenteou no início de junho com sua mais recente obra-prima, o álbum Depth Of Being, algo como “Profundidade do Ser”, em tradução livre. Este lançamento marca um momento crucial na carreira de Fedele Ladisa, já que este é seu primeiro álbum solo desde quando saiu do aclamado grupo Agents Of Time, há três anos.
Depth Of Being é uma viagem sonora que mergulha nas camadas mais profundas da alma e da existência do artista, que explorou as emoções humanas com complexidade e maestria. O disco combina sons atmosféricos, ritmos pulsantes e abordagens mais experimentais, levando o ouvinte a uma jornada introspectiva durante as 11 faixas. Há também um clipe gravado especialmente para a track “There’s Only One”, em parceria com Mickael Karkousse.
“Este álbum é mais do que apenas música; é um pedaço da minha alma, um testemunho de inúmeras horas de dedicação, criatividade e paixão. Nos últimos sete meses, eu e os meus incríveis colaboradores derramamos os nossos corações em cada nota, em cada letra, buscando a perfeição e autenticidade. Porém, antes do lançamento deste grande álbum, o artista já vinha construindo uma trajetória no mínimo impressionante. No seu histórico estão um remix de “Enjoy The Silence”, do Depeche Mode, que se tornou um sucesso mundial, lançamentos pela Ellum Audio, de Maceo Plex, Turbo Recordings, do Tiga, HABITAT, do Mind Against, além de vários remixes para artistas como Diplo e Stephan Bodzin.
Tivemos a oportunidade de fazer algumas perguntas à Fedele em relação ao processo criativo do seu LP e aproveitamos também para saber mais sobre sua relação com o Brasil
Olá, Fedele. Obrigado por nos atender. Você é natural da Itália, mas li que você passou um tempo em Barcelona experimentando e misturando alguns sons para produzir o álbum. Pode nos contar como essa experiência influenciou o processo do álbum? O que você extraiu de melhor desse período na capital catalã?
Olá, pessoal! Essa experiência foi a faísca que acendeu meu desejo de criar um álbum. Eu me isolei em Barcelona por alguns meses para minimizar as distrações e mergulhar totalmente no processo criativo. Esse período me permitiu redefinir meu som e explorar o vasto mundo da música com a mente aberta. A vibração e a atmosfera da cidade também me guiaram na definição da direção do álbum.
Soubemos também que o álbum vem sendo produzido desde a época da pandemia, há cerca de três anos. Esse período que atravessamos também influenciou o resultado final? Houve momentos em que você considerou abandonar algum conceito ou faixa devido aos obstáculos?
Sem dúvida, a pandemia foi um momento desafiador para mim, pessoal e profissionalmente. Meu projeto musical anterior não estava mais me satisfazendo, e senti um forte desejo de explorar novas direções musicais. Houve muitos obstáculos, inclusive a dificuldade de terminar as faixas de forma diferente da que eu fazia antes. No entanto, esse processo desafiador acabou gerando uma sensação de realização e crescimento. Superar esses momentos difíceis definitivamente tornou o resultado final ainda mais gratificante.
O que você considera a inovação mais significativa em “Depth Of Being” em comparação com seus trabalhos anteriores? Houve algum equipamento ou técnica que você utilizou pela primeira vez? Há um toque analógico também em alguma das produções? O que você destacaria?
A inovação mais significativa em “Depth Of Being” é a nova abordagem que adotei para compor e produzir. Fiz experimentos com novas técnicas, incorporei mais vocais e procurei criar músicas de verdade em vez de apenas faixas. Esse processo foi incrivelmente empolgante, pois avancei passo a passo em direção à minha visão de um produtor musical capaz de dar vida a qualquer ideia. O álbum apresenta muitos sons analógicos, sou um cara da velha guarda que sempre evita coisas pré-fabricadas, loops etc. Tudo é feito por mim e pela minha criatividade.
E o que você pode nos falar a respeito das colaborações do disco? Temos Mickael Karkousse, Lvdovica e Ria. Qual é a história por trás de cada uma dessas parcerias?
Escrevi a música primeiro e depois procurei cantores para dar um toque diferente às canções. A colaboração com Mickael Karkousse, Lvdovica e Ria foi uma verdadeira conquista. Cada artista trouxe seu estilo e energia únicos para o projeto, ajudando a moldar o som final do álbum. Essas colaborações permitiram que eu realizasse meu sonho antigo de criar músicas completas com vocalistas talentosos.
Você viveu um período importante ao lado do Agents Of Time. Qual foi o grande ponto dessa transição para a carreira solo? Há algo neste disco ou no seu momento atual da carreira que você carrega das experiências passadas ou Fedele é algo totalmente novo e diferente?
Meu tempo com o Agents Of Time foi ótimo, especialmente em termos de performance ao vivo e improvisação. Fazer parte de um trio ao vivo me ensinou muito sobre a organização de faixas em tempo real e como reagir à energia do público. Essas experiências definitivamente influenciaram meu trabalho solo, mas Fedele também é um novo capítulo com seu próprio som e direção distintos. É uma mistura de minhas experiências passadas e novas explorações.
Ao mesmo tempo em que você é um artista bastante criativo, você também lida com o perfeccionismo, não é mesmo? Isso chega a te atrapalhar em alguns casos? Como você lida com o equilíbrio entre a busca pela perfeição e a aceitação das imperfeições durante o processo criativo?
Claro que me considero um pouco perfeccionista, o que pode ter seus prós e contras. Meu objetivo é obter a melhor qualidade em meu trabalho. Percebi a importância de saber quando relaxar e compartilhar minhas criações. É uma questão de encontrar um equilíbrio entre buscar a perfeição e aceitar as imperfeições. Com o passar do tempo, melhorei minha capacidade de seguir o fluxo e reconhecer que o crescimento é constante. Essa perspectiva me permitiu apreciar a jornada mais profundamente.
Bem, agora que já falamos bastante sobre o álbum e sobre produção, gostaríamos de ir para um lado um pouco mais pessoal e falar sobre memórias e projeções futuras. Primeiramente, quais são suas melhores lembranças de passagens pelo Brasil? Há planos para vir em uma nova tour por aqui?
Recentemente, toquei no Gate22 em Campinas e tenho que dizer que sempre adoro vir ao Brasil. A energia é incrível e o público está sempre aberto a novas experiências. Também gostei de tocar no Caos e no Surreal Park no passado. O Brasil parece uma segunda casa para mim, e com certeza estou planejando voltar para mais turnês. O entusiasmo e o calor do público brasileiro são incomparáveis.
Falando de DJs e produtores, há algum artista daqui que você admira e acompanha mais de perto?
Com certeza. Tenho muitos amigos no Brasil e tento me manter em contato com eles sempre que posso. Alguns dos artistas que admiro são L_cio, Eli Iwasa, Whebba, Anna, Waltervelt e Renato Ratier. Um dos mais inspiradores para mim sempre foi Gui Boratto. Acompanho sua música desde o início da minha carreira.
Com quem você adoraria colaborar ou fazer um b2b? E qual o motivo por trás dessa escolha? Pode ser alguém de qualquer parte do mundo…
Minhas escolhas de colaboração geralmente dependem do humor e do momento em que estou. Às vezes, quero fazer experiências com alguém cujo estilo seja muito diferente do meu para criar algo realmente único. Outras vezes, prefiro trabalhar com alguém mais alinhado com meu estilo para produzir uma obra-prima coesa. Um artista que sempre admirei e com o qual adoraria colaborar é meu bom amigo Maceo Plex. Sua versatilidade e inovação na música são algo que eu respeito profundamente.
Agora que você já lançou o álbum, qual será o seu foco principal?
Com o lançamento do álbum, quero tirar um tempo para planejar cuidadosamente meus próximos passos. Vou me concentrar mais em minha gravadora e continuar a criar novas músicas. O aprimoramento de minhas técnicas e o esforço constante para inovar estarão na linha de frente de meus esforços.
O que você ainda busca alcançar no âmbito pessoal e profissional? Há algum sonho não realizado que está na sua bucketlist?
Tenho muitas metas que espero alcançar em minha vida profissional. Meu plano é continuar crescendo como artista e experimentar estilos de música. Pessoalmente, quero encontrar um equilíbrio entre o trabalho e minha vida pessoal para que eu possa sempre encontrar felicidade e motivação em meu trabalho.

We spoke to Italian DJ & Producer Fedele, who has just released his debut album Depth Of Being on Obscura
After a long period of dedication, Italian DJ and producer Fedele presented us at the beginning of June with his latest masterpiece, the album Depth Of Being. This release marks a crucial moment in Fedele Ladisa‘s career, as this is his first solo album since leaving the acclaimed group Agents Of Time three years ago.
Depth Of Being is a sound journey that delves into the deepest layers of the artist’s soul and existence, exploring human emotions with complexity and mastery. The album combines atmospheric sounds, pulsating rhythms and more experimental approaches, taking the listener on an introspective journey throughout the 11 tracks. There is also a music video recorded especially for the track “There’s Only One”, in partnership with Mickael Karkousse.
“This album is more than just music; it’s a piece of my soul, a testimony to countless hours of dedication, creativity and passion. Over the past seven months, my incredible collaborators and I have poured our hearts into every note, every lyric, striving for perfection and authenticity. This incredible creation holds a special place in my heart, and I will cherish it forever”, he said in a post on social media.
However, before the release of this great album, the artist had already been building an impressive track record to say the least. His track record includes a remix of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy The Silence”, which became a worldwide hit, releases by Maceo Plex’s Ellum Audio, Tiga’s Turbo Recordings, Mind Against’s HABITAT, as well as several remixes for artists such as Diplo and Stephan Bodzin.
We had the opportunity to ask Fedele a few questions about the creative process behind his LP and also to find out more about his relationship with Brazil.
Hello, Fedele. Thanks for taking the time to talk to us. You’re originally from Italy, but I read that you spent some time in Barcelona experimenting and mixing some sounds to produce the album. Can you tell us how this experience influenced the album process? What did you get out of your time in the Catalan capital?
This experience was the spark that ignited my desire to create an album. I isolated myself in Barcelona for a few months to minimize distractions and fully immerse myself in the creative process. This period allowed me to redefine my sound and explore the vast world of music with an open mind. The city’s vibe and atmosphere also guided me shaping the album’s direction.
We’ve also heard that the album has been in production since the time of the pandemic, about three years ago. Did this period also influence the final result? Were there times when you considered abandoning a concept or track because of the obstacles?
Absolutely, the pandemic was a challenging time for me personally and professionally. My previous musical project was no longer fulfilling, and I felt a strong urge to explore new musical directions. There were many obstacles, including the difficulty of finishing tracks differently than I had before. However, this challenging process ultimately led to a sense of accomplishment and growth. Pushing through those hard moments definitely made the final result even more rewarding.
What do you consider to be the most significant innovation in “Depth Of Being” compared to your previous work? Was there any equipment or technique that you used for the first time? Is there also an analog touch in any of the productions? What would you highlight?
The most significant innovation in “Depth Of Being” is the new approach I took to writing and producing. I experimented with new techniques, incorporated more vocals, and aimed to create actual songs rather than just tracks. This process was incredibly exciting as I progressed step by step towards my vision of a music producer who can bring any idea to life. The album features a lot of analog sounds, I’m an old school guy always avoiding pre-made stuff, loops etc. Everything it’s made by me and my creativity.
And what can you tell us about the collaborations on the record? We have Mickael Karkousse, Lvdovica and Ria. What’s the story behind each of these partnerships?
I wrote the music first and then sought out singers to add a different flavor to the songs. Collaborating with Mickael Karkousse, Lvdovica, and Ria was a real achievement. Each artist brought their unique style and energy to the project, helping to shape the final sound of the album. These collaborations allowed me to fulfill my long-standing dream of creating complete songs with talented vocalists.
You had an important period with Agents Of Time. What was the big turning point in your solo career? Is there anything on this record or in your current career that you carry over from past experiences or is Fedele something totally new and different?
My time with Agents Of Time was great, especially in terms of live performance and improvisation. Being part of a live trio taught me a lot about arranging tracks on the fly and responding to the energy of the audience. These experiences have definitely influenced my solo work, but Fedele is also a new chapter with its own distinct sound and direction. It’s a blend of my past experiences and new explorations.
At the same time as being a very creative artist, you also deal with perfectionism, don’t you? Does that sometimes get in the way? How do you deal with the balance between striving for perfection and accepting imperfections during the creative process?
Sure I consider myself a bit of a perfectionist, which can have its pros and cons. I aim for top notch quality, in my work. I’ve come to realize the importance of knowing when to loosen up and share my creations. It’s all about striking a balance, between striving for perfection and embracing imperfections. Over time I’ve gotten better at going with the flow and recognizing that growth is constant. This perspective has allowed me to appreciate the journey more deeply.
Well, now that we’ve talked a lot about the album and production, we’d like to go a little more personal and talk about memories and future projections. First of all, what are your best memories of touring Brazil? Are there any plans to come on another tour here?
I recently played at Gate22 in Campinas and have to say, I always love coming to Brazil. The energy is incredible, and the audience is always open to new experiences. I’ve also enjoyed playing at Caos and Surreal Park in the past. Brazil feels like a second home to me, and I’m definitely planning to return for more tours. The enthusiasm and warmth of the Brazilian crowd are unparalleled.
Speaking of DJs and producers, are there any artists from here that you admire and follow most closely?
Absolutely. I have many friends in Brazil and I try to keep up with them whenever I can. Some of the artists I admire include L_cio, Eli Iwasa, Whebba, Anna, Waltervelt, and Renato Ratier. One of the most inspiring for me has always been Gui Boratto. I’ve followed his music since the beginning of my career.
Who would you love to collaborate with or do a b2b with? And what would be the reason behind that choice? It could be someone from anywhere in the world…
Fedele: My collaboration choices often depend on the mood and moment I’m in. Sometimes, I want to experiment with someone whose style is very different from mine to create something truly unique. Other times, I prefer to work with someone more aligned with my style to produce a cohesive masterpiece. One artist I’ve always admired and would love to collaborate with is my good friend Maceo Plex. His versatility and innovation in music are something I deeply respect.
Now that you’ve released the album, what will be your main focus?
With the album released, I want to take some time to plan my next moves carefully. I’ll be focusing more on my label and continuing to create new music. Improving my techniques and always striving to innovate will be at the forefront of my efforts.
What do you still want to achieve on a personal and professional level? Are there any unfulfilled dreams that are on your bucket list?
I have a lot of goals I hope to accomplish in my professional life. My plan is to keep growing as an artist and trying out styles of music. Personally I want to strike a balance, between work and my personal life so that I can always find happiness and motivation in my work.
